Review of Mosby’s Pathology for Massage Therapists, by Salvo and Anderson. During the class of Dr. Johnson.
In chapter 7, information about the cardiovascular and lymphatic diseases is important to massage therapy. Since massage helps move fluids such as lymph and blood in the body, it is imperative that the therapist knows of any heart related disorders as to not further complicate circulation issues and overload the system. The lymphatic disorders need to be taken with caution so the therapist does not worsen symptoms and cause more problems for the client. When clients have a cardiovascular or lymphatic disorder a light massage would be best if the doctor has given the ok for a massage. This also would be ok if the client is on medications for the disorders.
