There are not that many benefits or contraindications of massage for the urinary system. Massage really does not benefit the urinary system. The only effect it really has is, that a client needs to visit the facilities right after a massage. This is because fluids in the muscles get pushed into the lymphatic system, which then gets filtered and excreted via the urinary system. This is a benefit for the whole body, as it helps remove wastes, toxins, and debris that build up in tight muscles. Always good to offer client drink some water after a massage to help this process. Contraindications are clients with something like kidney stones might be in too much pain to tolerate a massage, gout in a cute phase, kidney failure. Mild urinary tract infections are fine for massage, while severe infections might necessitate a delay of the massage.

I can’t say I’m a big fan of the wording with this one. Massage helps to move the fluids in the body, which of course helps the urinary system. On top of this, massage has also been known to reduce stress and increase self-confidence. This specifically can help incontinence, but a reduction in stress and boost in confidence can also improve bodily functions to help fight most infections. While I agree that if a person is in too much pain for a massage it may be contraindicated, massage therapists should keep in mind that we can help with posture, and even help to relieve some of the pain that comes from having an issue with the urinary system. A main contraindication would be renal ptosis, where the kidneys drop due to a lack of fatty tissue connecting it to the walls of the body. If the client is aware of this issue, please avoid the kidney area altogether.
