Mosby’s Pathology for Massage Therapists, review

May 22, 2013

I like the new chapter on Aging and Massage. The Baby Boomer generation is aging. This generation is bringing an increased demand for massage therapy. Susan Salvo, your inclusion of Aging and Massage is very timely. This chapter is well thought out and detailed. I like the brief introduction of Anatomy and Physiology for the aging generation.

I want to add that Susan Salvo is very quick to respond to questions about her book and about Massage Therapy Pathology. The personal response with a great textbook makes be proud to adopt Mosby’s Pathology for Massage Therapists for my course.

Endangerment Sites

March 14, 2012

We are using Mosby’s Pathology for Massage Therapists, 2nd Edition by Susan G. Salvo. I really like the Appendix B, Endangerment Sites. We were not assigned to read it in our class. But, I find it very helpful to beware of places on the body where massage should be used with caution.

I was massaging a client in the popliteal area, and the client moved as in pain. It was a good thing I was massaging gently. The client told me he is very sensitive at his right common peroneal nerve. And he was appreciative that I started with gentle strokes in that area.
